Deadline for applications 15 March 2020. All applications will be reviewed after this date. The initial application consists of the application form which allows you to tell us why you think you are right for this scheme.
All eligible applicants will receive a follow up email with an invite to our video interview assessment. There will only be one question on the video interview which will allow you to further talk about your interest in the role.
Follow up questionnaire: If you are successful on the video interview you will be invited to complete a follow up questionnaire. Full information will be sent to you by 27 March. You will have approximately two weeks to complete this.
Assessment Centre: If you are successful after video assessment you will be invited to an assessment centre. These assessment centres take place in late June. You will hear from us at least one week before the assessment day whether you have been successful. We do our best to keep you updated but please be aware you may not know if you have been selected for an assessment day until mid-June.
Role Responsibility
During this 18 month apprenticeship you will train to be a journalist with the BBC working towards a diploma in journalism accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ).
You will work alongside BBC News teams on work placements learning how to create and deliver quality News content for multiple platforms.
Meanwhile, you will be studying for a Level 3 Diploma in Journalism. Balancing your time between learning on the job and in a classroom environment will be essential.
You will get to tell news stories which appeal to a wide range of people.
Are you the right candidate?
You should be curious with a hunger to understand the world and get to the facts.
You need to be resilient and adaptable.
You should be brimming with creativity and a good storyteller.
You must have a passion for writing.
You must love all things digital and be able to show you are already using social media to tell stories.
You will be 18 or over by the time the scheme starts in the autumn.
You must be eligible to work in the UK
This is a scheme aimed at non-graduates. But you need to have at least 5 GCSEs with Maths and English at a C or above (or equivalent) or Grades 9 to 4. In Scotland you need to have five National 5’s, Grades A to C including Maths and English.
We also welcome those who are doing a completely different job – and want to make a career change to become a journalist.

Package Description
Salary; £14,250 (or £18,810 if your apprenticeship is in London)
BBC staff get 26 days (1 of which is a corporation day) and you can buy or sell days to suit you, as well as national bank holidays.
The Digital Journalism Apprenticeship Scheme offers places in London and Salford.
You will be able to select your preference for location when you apply and will be considered for BOTH locations.
